Himachal Pradesh would host Director Generals and Inspector Generals of Prisons and Correctional Services from 19 states of the country at Shimla on 4-5 October to discuss various issues pertaining to prisions and women in particular.
Somesh Goyal, Director General of Prisons and Correctional Services, HP said the Himachal Prisons Department is organising a two days conference on the theme of Women in Detention and Access to Justice on 4-5 October, 2018 in Shimla.

“The Bureau of Police Research and Development has allocated this conference to Himachal Pradesh Prisons and we are co-hosting this conference with BPR&D.
It is, for the first time that Himachal Pradesh Prisons will be hosting a national conference of this level,” Goyal said.
He said women in prisons have been in focus for quite some time because of their vulnerability and special requirements of health and hygiene. Himachal Pradesh has only 99 number of women prisoners.
Experts from National Law University, Delhi, Raksha Shakti University, Gujarat, Tata Institute of Social Science, Mumbai, National Law University, Shimla, UNODC. Tinka-Tinka, BPR&D, Human Rights Commission, several NGOs and academia will participate in the conference.
The Chairman of the State Women Commission, Himachal Pradesh has also been invited for the conference.
Governor Acharya Devvrat will inaugurate the conference at 4 October, 2018 and qn exhibition of products made by inmates of Himachal Prisons will also be put up at the Tavern Hall, Gaiety Theatre where visitors will be able to buy their favourite products.
